Read 1 Kings 6:1-38.

[Stuff we're skipping:

* We get a rundown of the officials during Solomon's regime.

* Basically we find out that Israel was fat and happy, and enemies of Israel brought tribute to Solomon all the years of his life. We also find out that Solomon became known for how smart he was.

* Solomon worked with Hiram of Tyre to get awesome lumber from his land to use for the temple. It also said that Solomon drafter thousands of Israelites to help build this awesome temple.]

1. 480 years is a long time for God to not have a formal place to be worshipped. In a sense, you can understand why the religion was getting a little flakey in Israel.
2. You get all the dimensions, and it sounds nice. One thing that sticks out to me is that they did all the stone-cutting away from the work site. So…there wasn’t any hammering or cutting on the land where the temple was going to be. Maybe they already considered that land sacred?
3. God tells Solomon that He will literally dwell in this temple that they are about the build. Imagine that. Not since Moses has God actually dwelt this close to man.
4. Stone, cedar, and gold. Smooth, sweet aroma, and shiney and beautiful.
5. Gold cherubim, angel-like beings. Sweet.
6. It took seven years to build this puppy.

A little tour might be in order…

Based on the plans in the OT, this is what it might have looked like.
