Read Acts 27:1-26.

1. I don’t know about you; but, sometimes, when I read the Bible, I think of it as being some far off mystical place. I guess that’s why it’s cool when you read about Paul going to Italy (a place I know, a place I’ve been). It grounds these stories in reality for me.
2. Since this story of the prison-ship of Julius is described in the first person, I guess Luke was along for the ride as well…
3. This Julius guy must have been a nice leader. He at least allowed Paul to be tended to by his friends in Sidon.
4. Apparently, they ship-hopped again. And, in the process, I think they were having a hard time sailing up.
5. Apparently, Paul knew what was going to happen to the ship. Things were not going to end well, but they didn’t listen to him. Uh oh…
6. Then they got hit by hurricane force winds, and the ship began to fall apart. Sounds like it was pretty intense.
7. Now, Paul gives them a little “I told you so”; but he also tells them that they are not going to die. He tells them them that an angel told him that he “must stand trial before Caesar” and that God has “graciously given” him the lives of everyone else on the ship. Talk about being on the right boat!
8. So, the plan was that they needed to run aground on an island…
