Read Genesis 11:1-9.

Wow…I’m swamped with getting stuff ready for youth tonight, but commitments are commitments.

1. I bet the language was Italian.
2. So…the people wanted to make a name for themselves? Why? Why do we want to do that so often? I know the temptation is there constantly…I want to be known as an awesome youth leader. I want MK to brag about how romantic I am. I want people to think, “Wow, Paul is the super-genius of all sports knowledge.” But why? How do you struggle in this area of “making a name for yourself”?
3. Why did they think that if they didn’t make a name for themselves that they would get dispersed over all of the earth? I’m not getting that…
4. How did God come down? In what form?
5. “Nothing will be impossible” if everyone spoke the same language. Interesting. Here’s a thought– do you think that the modern age of the InterNet (the ability to communicate freely and openly to people all over the world) is making so that we are getting to that “nothing is impossible” point again?
6. Scrambled languages. And God spread the people out. It’s hard to shout, “Hey, get them bricks” in Swahili and get the dude who speaks Mandarin Chinese to understand.

I think the main thing in this story is the whole “making a name for ourselves” thing. I think I was made in God’s image for a reason– to make a name for God, not me.

1. Sure you do. It was totally Latin, since Latin is the most awesome of all languages.
2. I think all people want to be remembered by future generations. You know, they wanna make an impact. For example I want to be a totally awesome gal in totally awesome movies that people will remember (oh wait, I already am!). I dunno… maybe we want to be famous because famous people sometimes seem to lead problem-free lives and we really want to have “Hakuna Matata” – no worries. Just a guess.
3. That always confused me, too. Maybe they thought that if they were famous people would come to them and build up cities around them instead of vice versa.
4. I dunno. Maybe he zapped himself down like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and maybe he was disguised as a regular person in order to get the skinny from the locals.
5. Maybe…kind of a creepy thought that we’re going back to Old Testament days.
6. This is the reason why you can never get the employees at McDonald’s to get your order right.

Wazz-up, get ready for the Green Arrow:

1.) No Pauly, it’s Philipino.
2.) Yes. Because they didn’t no better and didn’t know God that good i think. Because we usually can’t control ourselfs. Because your a nice guy and your a really cool, smart, alsome, white, asian, youth leader. It is kind of hard for me to know how i struggle.
3.) I think that they want to try to be a lengend.
4.) I don’t know? I don’t know?
5.) I’m confuse about what you are saying.
* Amen. That is why i’ll reamember you man. I want some Philipino food.

Yeah…I know that people want to be famous…but is wanting to be famous something that fits into being a follwer of Christ?

4). If God came down, and in a form, I would like to think that He appeared as in Genesis 1, hovering like a mist over the waters.

hmmm…i understand that they where trying to make a name for themselves but in my bibly it also says that they where trying to draw all the people together. in makeing a name forthemselves they where going away from making a name for god butthey where unifying with a possible peace over the earth is this not what god wants as well? i think when god came down he must have been in the same form as in egypt when he took the first born sons. some sort of phantom or fog.

I don’t know. Is having world peace more important than living for God?

I definitely wish I had all kinds of musical talents, or had at least kept playing the instruments I played. Even now, I’d say my craziest dream would be to join Hillsong United or maybe start my own insanely talented worship band and travel the world and rock crowds every night… Then I remember that the whole point of worship is to glorify God, not show off your face-melting solos. Sure, I’d love it if some day, I could really get people going with music, but I would want to get them going for God, not for me. Maybe that’s why right now, my fingers are lying dormant, until I can know how to use them properly… If that makes any sense.
